This post is wholly dedicated to the swiss maestro Roger Federer !!
With his 3-6 6-3 6-1 win over Brit Andy Murray yesterday night,he ensured the year end world no:1 ranking :) It was yet again a clinical performance from the master after an ordinary start which saw UE's raining from the forehand side..Consequently he was broken twice in the first set.. However Federer started to play more aggressively and attacked the second serve of Murray on a consistent basis.. Murrays level dropped, and with Federer on the other side of the net its quite obvious :D After winning the second set,Brit served first to make it 1-0 in his favour..Then Federer raced away with six consecutive games to wrap the set and match :)
Roger Federer has been crowned ATP World Tour Champion for the fifth time, after becoming just the second player in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings to regain the year-end No. 1 ranking.Federer had been crowned with the same from 2004-2007..However 2008 was Nadal's year(with FO,Wimbledon and Olympics) and deservingly Nadal ended the year as No:1 ... Federer bounced back strongly in 2009 (though losing in the AO finals to Nadal in 5 and also in USO to Delpotro again in 5) capturing his first French Open final defeating soderling in straight sets and went on to regain "His" Wimbledon title in an epic match against Roddick[:D] He also won 2 masters title.. one in Madrid(clay) where he defeated Nadal 4 and 4.. and in Cincinnati.. The strange thing to be noted is that he didnt even win a single masters shield title last year :| Federer answered his critics brilliantly by regaining Wimbledon and no:1 ranking,as well as capturing the elusive French Open title.. Now Federer can be safely called as THE GOAT !! This year also saw his marriage with his girlfriend Miroslava 'Mirka' Vavrinec, whom he was dating for the last 8 years..and also the arrival of his twin daughters,Charlene Riva and Myla Rose ..
With five year-end No. 1 finishes, Federer ties Jimmy Connors’ mark(1974-78) and now stands just one back of Pete Sampras on the list of all-time ATP World Tour Champions. Sampras finished as the No. 1 player six straight years, from 1993-98.
Federer now joins Ivan Lendl as the only player to have held, lost and regained the ATP World Tour Champion title in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings (since 1973). Lendl held the year-end No. 1 South African Airways ATP Ranking from 1985-87 and finished second behind Mats Wilander in 1988 before reclaiming the top spot at the end of 1989.
It seems like Federer loves chasing all those unbreakable as well as bizarre records in the history of Tennis :P We all love you :)
Hail TMF !!
